Cavefish Selected for Welsh Government-Backed R&D Programme with Transport for Wales

Cardiff, UK — June 18, 2025

Cardiff-based AI company Cavefish has been selected for a Research & Development collaboration programme with Media Cymru and Transport for Wales, developing communication intelligence technology for transport operator contexts.

The programme, funded through the Welsh Government-backed Media Cymru initiative, will see Cavefish's EchoDepth platform adapted for use in transport sector applications including operator training, passenger communication assessment, and staff development.

Media Cymru is a £50m research and development programme funded by UK Research and Innovation, bringing together universities, broadcasters, and technology companies to develop the future of media production in Wales. The programme supports collaborative R&D projects that combine creative and technical innovation.

"Transport is a sector where communication quality directly affects safety, customer experience, and operational effectiveness. Working with Transport for Wales gives us the opportunity to develop EchoDepth for contexts where getting communication right genuinely matters. This is exactly the kind of high-stakes environment our technology is designed for."

— Jonathan Prescott, Founder & CEO, Cavefish

The collaboration will explore how emotional signal analysis can be applied to transport operator training programmes, helping staff develop more effective communication skills for passenger-facing roles. The R&D programme will also investigate applications for internal communications and leadership development within transport organisations.

Transport for Wales operates rail services across Wales and the borders, serving millions of passengers annually. The organisation has invested significantly in staff development and customer service improvement programmes.

"We're always looking for innovative approaches to staff development that can help our people deliver better experiences for passengers. This collaboration with Cavefish and Media Cymru represents an exciting opportunity to explore how AI can support our training programmes."

The selection follows Cavefish's appointment as a strategic partner of AI Wales and recognition at the ECSO Cyber Solution Days earlier in 2025.
